I'm Clumsy and I Cook

Mama Kat's topic of the week is: "Describe a talent or flaw that seems to be in your genes."

I am going to focus in on one of each:
Flaw: I am extremely clumsy.
Talent: I love to cook, and haven't heard any complaints.

I know. These two things should not exist in the same person. I will not deny my clumsiness. I own a set of crutches and have put them to use many times in my 27 years. I think we are at a point that my family is more surprised when I don't injure myself in a month (or week). There have been many jokes about placing me in a bubble. Not a bad idea.

My latest act of clumsiness: I stepped on Ella's favorite chew toy. This toy happens to be a deer antler. When I called my mom, she instantly said, "should I bring over the crutches?" I ended up with a bruised foot and some nerve damage that took a few weeks to heal. However, I did not have to use the crutches! I did get to hear endless teasing from my family and friends. Doesn't she look cute with her antler though? Who could take her favorite toy while looking at that adorable face?

Surprisingly! I have never, seriously, injured myself in the kitchen. I absolutely love to cook, especially when I'm trying a new recipe. I scour recipes and reviews for fun, looking for my next adventure. My husband enjoys this hobby as well - since he is my test audience. I think the only thing he doesn't like is my need for new recipes. This means when we have something he really likes it may be a while before it circles around again on the menu.

Hopefully, my flaw and talent will continue to be separate!

  1. Were you clumsy like that as a child as well? For me, it is a lack of inner monologue. I say what is in my head and sometimes wish it just stayed there. My sister and mother suffer from the same symptoms so it must be hereditary.

    1. Thanks for stopping by! Yes, I have just always been clumsy. I first broke a bone at 13, but that wasn't even my first injury. I also ended up with all my sandals thrown away at a young age, because I kept stubbing my toe! My dad took care of that one. My husband lacks a filter between his brain and mouth sometimes! ha ha

  2. I'm clumsy and I like to bake, which means I am a very, very messy baker.

    1. Thank you for stopping by! I try not to be messy, but I do tend to use a lot more dishes than I probably need to while cooking! I can't say how much I appreciate the dish washer we have in our new house!

  3. Ouch! I'm sure stepping on a deer antler was quite painful! I manage to run into things a lot. It's like I just have no awareness of what's around me or how close I am to things. This has led to quite a few bruised shins and pretty words coming out of my mouth!

    1. Oh yes, I think Myth Busters proved that "colorful" words help relieve pain! So, let them fly! :) I also end up with bruises, but usually don't have a clue where they are from!

  4. Your dog looks like he's guarding that antler pretty good! I never cook, the kitchen is where I become a total clutz.

    1. I received my love of cooking from my dad. He always really enjoyed cooking and trying new recipes. Ella definitely doesn't like when the antler is put up! Usually, when we have company. We would had for a friend to get their eye poked out at our house!
