About our family, according to Ben!

I got this idea from a few blogs, including this one and this one. I have sat down and interviewed Ben about himself, and us. He gave me whatever ideas were floating around in his head at that time. I still want to do this yearly, as adorably suggested. It may not be as entertaining, since he is older, but I'm hoping it is still nice to see the change! So, here it is. Information about our family from an eight year old.

All about Ben, as told by Ben.

What is the meaning of life:
- It means how you live. How your life has been. Mine has just been growing up so far.

What do you want to be when you grow up?
- A surgeon... or a swimming instructor.
(What a vast difference! He has been playing a game in which he is a surgeon. We think this is where the latest development came from. He has said swimming instructor for a long time.)

What brings you the most happiness?
- Winning stuff; contests or getting trophies. Completing tasks on games.
(He is his father's son. They are so competitive. I don't stand a chance when we sit down for a "friendly" game of Candy Land.)

When do you feel most loved?
- When I'm part of a wedding or when someone is apologizing.

What are you afraid of?
- Sort of spiders, because a while ago a spider appeared and made me jump. Well, I am afraid of loud crash noises.

If you had one wish, what would it be?
- To win every game I play on my computer.
(Again, competitive. I'm telling you. They don't like to lose.)

What is the funniest word?
- It's like.... *dramatic pause* ... Holy Guacamole! *cue uncontrollable giggles*
(I'll be honest. I was worried about what the response was going to be to this question. Phew.)

What is the hardest/easiest thing to do?
- Hardest: For me to fall asleep when weird noises are happening.
- Easiest: Making friends, because a lot of people do like me.

What makes you mad?
- When I get something taken away forever or I get in trouble.
(Guilt trip? Maybe. We aren't really effected by it though.)

What is the meaning of love?
- You like someone a lot. You go on dates and get married. Sometimes it means getting pregnant for the bride.

If you had all the money in the world, what would you do with it?
- I would buy a Wii U and maybe my own laptop. NOT a toy one, a real one. Also, some more prepaid cards for Wizard 101.
(Oh, how simple the requests of a child. Mike and I could list endless things we would buy.)

About Mike and me, according to Ben:

What do we do for fun?
Suzie: Party with your friends.
(I "go out" with friends maybe once a month. By "go out" I mean we go shopping, or out to eat.)
Mike: Probably date you and play video games. Oh, and play with me.

What's our favorite tv shows?
Suzie: Twilight Zone (I only watch this when Mike turns it on.)
Mike: Every Cartoon Network show in the world.
(He does watch cartoons, with Ben. I think Ben just pictures him watching them all the time by himself too. This entertains me.)

What do we drink?
Suzie: If you were older, beer. Right now, Sprite.
(Yes, yes. When I'm older.)
Mike: Mostly coffee, but of course when older beer.
*Again, tons of giggles and "I keep saying beer".*

What do we eat?
Suzie: Usually slushies, and whatever you make.
(At least the kid knows who is cooking the food. I don't remember the last time I had a slushie.)
Mike: Usually hamburgers, cheeseburgers, nachos - mostly cereal.
(I swear we eat vegetables.)

What do we like to read?
Suzie: You like to read "adult" books.
(Let's clarify. I read chapter books.)
Mike: "Adult" books.
(I have only seen Mike read magazines in the three years we have been together. I have even bought him books to encourage reading.)

What do we wear?
Suzie: Regular clothes or dresses if you are going to a fancy place.
Mike: Tuxedos, shorts, pants, regular clothes.
(Again, I don't know what they do while I'm gone, but I have never seen Mike in a tuxedo.)

What do we do with our friends?
Suzie: Hang out, eat food, and drink orange juice.
(I can only assume he has seen me drinking mimosas with a good friend. Orange juice is usually not the drink of choice while hanging out with friends.)
Mike: Play video games and party all day.
(I now picture when I am gone that they have cartoon watching, tuxedo wearing, junk food eating, all day parties.)

What are our favorite songs?
Suzie: Country and The Cup Song.
(I do break into the cup song a lot. It is catchy.)
Mike: Rap and Kanye West.
(Oh yes, our ears do get assaulted by the sounds of rap and Mr. West regularly in this household.)

What do we do when you are sleeping?
Suzie: Play on the computer, typing stuff, and text.
(Pretty darn accurate.)
Mike: Sleeps lazily.
(I found this funny, because I usually go to bed hours before Mike on any night, but especially on the weekend.)

How old are we?
Suzie: 27, wait did you just turn 28?
(Yes, yes I did.)
Mike: 34

(I was expecting a more whimsical answer, especially after him saying we weren't old enough to drink beer. I guess he has passed the age of no thought of age/time. We will continue to allow him you have to be older than 34 to drink beer.)

So, there you have it. All about our family according to Ben.

    1. Yes. My husband and I now have a running joke about his tuxedo parties. If only I could find where he is hiding all his tuxedos!
